Reactive extrusion applied to agro-resources |
Reactive extrusion is also developing around green chemistry, chemistry applied to agro-resources. Within this context, Clextral is participating in the project "FUI SYNTHONS – Chemical Synthesis Intermediary". Sponsored by the ARD (Agro-industries Research and Development) and labelled by the World Competitiveness Expert Centre IAR (Industries and Agro-Resources), this project teams BMS (Bi-Modeling Systems) and the members of the Competitiveness Expert Centre of the Rhone-Alpes region AXELERA (Chemistry Environment), to which Clextral belongs.
The goal of this project is to develop chemical molecules from agro-resources by reactive extrusion. Clextral's adapted metallurgical twin screw extruders equip the platform of the Glucides Valorisation Centre (CVG) within the framework of this co-development project.
Reactive extrusion is also eligible for biomass valorisation, notably in the biomass pre-treatment operations for 2nd and 3rd generation fuels

In this field, the Clextral twin screw extruder's process functions are:
- Micro/macro mixing - Defibration - Continuous chemical reaction - Chemical impregnation
The advantages of reactive extrusion in the biomass field are:
- Flexibility: ability to perform several operations in the same machine - Low density feed - Modularity - Efficient and controlled mixing - Intime placing of reagents in contact
